The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a robbery syndicate in connection with a violent gold robbery at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area.
According to a police statement issued on August 4, 2026, the suspects are believed to have participated in the robbery of a gold dealer on March 11, 2026.
The suspects have been identified as Kwabena Amuah, 25, also known as “IK”; Mohammed Nasir, 28, alias “Mallam”; Samuel Agyei, 24, alias “Okese-1”; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, alias “Brefo.”
Police said the robbery occurred at about 11:00 p.m. after the complainant, Mr. Oris Oduro, had closed his gold-buying business at Tamakloe.
He reportedly hired an okada rider to transport him to his residence at Wassa Akropong, but while en route, armed men attacked them at gunpoint.
The robbers allegedly made away with GH¢24,000 in cash, seven pounds and six matches of gold valued at GH¢94,530, an iPhone XR mobile phone, and a Tecno Spark 12 smartphone.
Following the incident, the Western Central Regional Police Command launched investigations, leading to intelligence-led operations at Duaso and Domeabra on July 21 and 22, 2026.
The operations resulted in the arrest of the four suspects, whom police believe are members of the robbery syndicate responsible for the attack.
The suspects were arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court on July 23, 2026, where they were remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, police say efforts are underway to apprehend a fifth suspect, identified only as “Agogo,” who remains at large.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to volunteer credible information on the whereabouts of the fugitive by reporting to the nearest police station.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and security, and ensuring that all persons involved in criminal activities are brought to justice.
