The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into the mysterious deaths of two women whose bodies were discovered in a hotel room in Tamale, with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) deploying a special team from the National Police Headquarters to support the probe.
The victims, believed to be nationals of the Republic of Benin, were found dead in a room at the Cab Hospitality Hotel located in the Gbewa Residential Area of Tamale on Monday, August 3, 2026.
According to a press release issued by the Northern Regional Police Command on Tuesday, August 4, police officers responded to the scene after receiving a report from the management of the hotel.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed the discovery of the two female bodies and immediately secured the scene as part of efforts to preserve evidence for investigations.
The police said the bodies have since been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where they have been preserved pending autopsy examinations to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities say investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths while also seeking to formally identify the deceased persons.
Although the women are believed to be Beninese nationals, police indicated that investigations are ongoing to confirm their identities and facilitate communication with their families through the appropriate authorities.
IGP Orders Special Intervention
In view of the circumstances surrounding the case, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a specialised investigative team from the National Police Headquarters in Accra to reinforce the Northern Regional Police Command.
The team comprises experienced investigators, intelligence officers and crime scene experts who will assist local investigators in gathering evidence, conducting forensic assessments and uncovering the circumstances that led to the deaths.
The deployment underscores the seriousness with which the Ghana Police Service is treating the case as it seeks to establish whether the deaths resulted from criminal activity or other causes.
Police have not disclosed any preliminary findings or indicated whether foul play is suspected, stressing that investigations remain at an early stage.
Investigation Underway
The Northern Regional Police Command says investigators have commenced preliminary inquiries aimed at reconstructing events leading to the deaths.
These include examining the hotel room where the bodies were found, interviewing persons who may have had contact with the victims, reviewing available evidence and collaborating with relevant authorities to verify the identities of the deceased.
The Command noted that every effort is being made to ensure a thorough and professional investigation.
The outcome of the post-mortem examination is expected to play a crucial role in determining the exact cause of death and guiding the direction of the investigation.
Police Appeal for Public Assistance
The police have appealed to members of the public who may have credible information relating to the incident to assist investigators.
