The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak at a mechanic shop along S.D.A. Road in Ho, preventing what could have been a major disaster after the blaze threatened a nearby fertilizer storage warehouse and adjoining properties.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, prompting a rapid response from firefighters stationed at the Ho Regional Headquarters Sub-Station.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at 11:27 a.m., following which a firefighting crew under the supervision of Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Dennis Tay was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the firefighters worked swiftly to bring the blaze under control before successfully extinguishing it.
Their prompt intervention prevented the fire from spreading beyond the mechanic shop, safeguarding nearby businesses and properties, including a fertilizer warehouse that could have significantly worsened the situation if the flames had reached it.
Although the fire was contained without any injuries or loss of life, it caused damage to property within the workshop.
The GNFS said one unregistered Mercedes-Benz vehicle was destroyed, while thirteen car doors stored at the premises were also burnt.
No casualties were recorded in the incident.
Preliminary investigations by the Fire Service indicate that the blaze was most likely caused by uncontrolled burning, though officials say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Service has used the opportunity to remind the public of the dangers associated with uncontrolled burning, particularly during periods when dry conditions can allow fires to spread rapidly.
It urged individuals, businesses and artisans to strictly adhere to fire safety measures and avoid indiscriminate burning of waste or other materials that could trigger preventable fires.
The GNFS also encouraged the public to promptly report any fire outbreak to emergency responders to ensure timely intervention and minimise damage to lives and property.
The latest incident adds to the Fire Service’s continued efforts to protect communities through rapid emergency response and public education on fire prevention.
