The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a vehicle fire involving a Daewoo Matiz at the Presby Church Junction in Suhum, preventing what could have escalated into a more serious incident.
The fire occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, prompting a rapid response from firefighters at the Suhum Fire Station after a distress call was received.
According to the GNFS, the firefighting crew arrived at the scene within minutes and immediately began efforts to bring the blaze under control.
Their swift intervention prevented the flames from spreading to nearby vehicles, structures, or other properties in the busy area.
Preliminary investigations by the Service indicate that the fire was caused by fuel leaking from the vehicle’s fuel tank, which ignited and set the car ablaze.
Although the Daewoo Matiz sustained partial fire damage, no injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident.
The Ghana National Fire Service commended the prompt response of its personnel, noting that timely intervention played a crucial role in limiting the extent of the damage.
The Service also used the opportunity to remind motorists to regularly inspect their vehicles, particularly fuel systems, to detect leaks and other mechanical faults that could trigger fires.
It urged drivers to seek immediate repairs whenever fuel leaks or unusual odours are detected.
Vehicle fires remain a concern on Ghana’s roads, with the GNFS consistently advising motorists to undertake routine maintenance, carry functional fire extinguishers where possible, and report fire outbreaks immediately to enable firefighters to respond promptly.
The latest incident at the Suhum Presby Church Junction ended without casualties, thanks to the quick action of firefighters and the effective containment of the blaze before it could spread further.
