Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has sanctioned two Port Health officers accused of extorting money from passengers at the Accra International Airport.

According to GACL, the two officers were found on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, to have demanded and collected amounts above the approved fees for the issuance of Yellow Fever Cards at Terminal 3.

The approved fee for the Yellow Fever Card is US$20 for foreign passport holders and GH¢100 for Ghanaian passport holders. However, the officers reportedly charged a passenger US$40.

GACL said it has since withdrawn and deactivated the officers’ identification cards, preventing them from operating at Kotoka International Airport or any other airport operated by the company.

The action forms part of measures by airport management to curb extortion and protect the integrity of services at Ghana’s airports.

Immigration officer transferred

GACL also addressed a viral video showing a Ghana Immigration Service officer allegedly demanding money from a passenger for “breakfast.”

The company said the Ghana Immigration Service has confirmed that the officer involved has since been transferred from the airport.

GACL reiterated its warning that staff and officials operating at the airport are being monitored.

“Everyone is being watched,” management stated.

The company has urged passengers who encounter extortion or other forms of misconduct to “Spot it. Record it. Report it.”

Passengers can report such incidents through GACL’s dedicated hotline on 054 217 5636, which is available for calls, WhatsApp messages and text messages.

GACL said it remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy on extortion and to safeguarding the integrity and reputation of Ghana’s airports.
