President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Minister for Defence, replacing the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

The reassignment forms part of changes to President Mahama’s ministerial team submitted to Parliament for approval in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who previously served as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, will now take charge of the Defence Ministry following the death of Dr. Omane Boamah.

Dr. Omane Boamah died in August 2025 in a military helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of other public officials and military personnel.

As part of the latest changes, Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

President Mahama has also nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, MP, as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, while Mahama Ayariga, MP, has been nominated for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

The new nominations and reassignments are subject to parliamentary approval before the affected ministers can formally assume their respective portfolios.
