Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has stated that not a pesewa of funds allocated for flood mitigation was spent on training, consultancy services or vehicles in 2025 and 2026.
According to the Minister, every cedi allocated for flood mitigation during the two-year period went directly into flood protection works.
Mr Ato Forson made the claim in a post shared on X on Tuesday August 11, accompanied by a graphic from the Ministry of Finance stating that $0 was spent on training, consultancies or vehicles from flood mitigation allocations in 2025 or 2026.
“Not a pesewa of flood mitigation funds was spent on training, consultancies or vehicles,” he stated.
He added that the government had ensured that the funds allocated for flood mitigation were directed towards physical interventions aimed at protecting communities from flooding.
“In 2025 and 2026, every cedi allocated went directly into actual flood protection works,” the Minister said.
The accompanying graphic, branded with the Ministry of Finance and the national emblem, reinforced the message, stating: “$0 spent on training, consultancies or vehicles in 2025 or 2026. All of the allocation goes to flood protection.”
The assertion comes amid ongoing concerns over flooding and the need for effective investment in flood control infrastructure across the country.
The government’s position suggests that its flood mitigation spending has been focused exclusively on infrastructure and other measures directly related to flood protection, rather than administrative expenses such as training, consultancy and vehicle procurement.
The Minister did not, in the post, provide a detailed breakdown of the specific flood protection projects or the total amount allocated and spent in 2025 and 2026.
The statement is therefore likely to draw attention to how flood mitigation funds have been utilised and the projects undertaken with the allocations.
