The Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Andrei Eduardovich Ordash, has invited the Speaker of Parliament and Members of Parliament to participate in the 3rd Russian-African Summit as Ghana and Russia seek to deepen bilateral and parliamentary relations.
The Ambassador extended the invitation when he paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Ambassador, the summit will provide opportunities for African countries to explore bilateral trade, development cooperation and the sharing of new technologies.
He said the participation of Ghana’s Parliament would add a valuable dimension to discussions at the summit and further strengthen relations between the two countries.
The meeting also focused on a significant inter-governmental agreement signed between Ghana and Russia in 2026 on military-technical cooperation.
Ambassador Ordash noted that the agreement requires parliamentary ratification before it can take effect, making Parliament a key institution in the implementation of the bilateral commitment.
The two sides also discussed the Russian-Parliament Friendship Association, expressing optimism that the composition of the current Parliament would help strengthen the association and promote deeper inter-parliamentary relations.
The Speaker, in response, recalled his previous visits to Russia and the engagements he held with his counterpart parliament, describing them as productive.
He also highlighted Ghana’s role in global peace efforts, particularly his involvement in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Geo-Political Team taskforce working to mediate the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Speaker reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to peaceful diplomacy and called for stronger relations between Parliament and the Russian Embassy.
He said deeper parliamentary engagement would help promote mutual prosperity and sustained cooperation between Ghana and Russia.
