The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition is strengthening collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to improve the protection of critical energy infrastructure and enhance preparedness for potential threats to the country’s energy sector.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, during an engagement with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, discussed areas where the Ministry and the GAF could deepen cooperation to safeguard key energy installations.
The meeting focused on strengthening security around critical energy infrastructure, improving emergency preparedness, and ensuring coordinated responses to threats that could disrupt energy production, transmission and distribution.
The engagement forms part of efforts to build stronger institutional partnerships to protect strategic assets and maintain the stability of Ghana’s energy sector.
The Minister highlighted the importance of closer coordination between the Ministry and the Armed Forces, particularly in responding to emergencies and potential security threats that could affect energy infrastructure and, consequently, the wider economy.
Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, also participated in discussions on how the military could support efforts to enhance resilience and security within the energy sector.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen Ghana’s ability to anticipate, prepare for and respond effectively to incidents that may threaten critical energy facilities.
Both sides are expected to explore practical measures to improve coordination and develop mechanisms for rapid response to emergencies involving strategic energy infrastructure.
