The People’s Alliance for Governance and Accountability (PAGA) has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the alleged involvement of Ghanaian public officials and Members of Parliament in the Aksa power project scandal following corruption proceedings in the United States.
Their demand follows allegations that some senior Ghanaian officials were taken on an all-expense-paid trip to Turkey and allegedly received $5,000 each in connection with the development and financing of power plant projects.
Prosecutors in the United States have also alleged that payments were made to some members of Ghana’s Parliament and other government officials.
The allegations date back to the period of Ghana’s severe power crisis, popularly known as “Dumsor,” which resulted in widespread disruptions to businesses and livelihoods.
Addressing the media in Accra on Wednesday, August 12,2026, Convenor of the People’s Alliance for Governance and Accountability, Daniel Oteng Awuah argued that the conviction of a person in the United States should not end the matter, particularly if the proceedings contain evidence pointing to alleged corruption involving Ghanaian officials.
He called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has therefore been urged to publicly state the status of any investigation into the Ghanaian dimension of the Aksa matter and respond to a Right to Information (RTI) request seeking relevant reports, information and documents shared with United States authorities.
Daniel Oteng Awuah further called on the OSP, Attorney General, EOCO, Financial Intelligence Centre and other competent state agencies to obtain and preserve the full evidential record arising from the US proceedings.
This, he said, should include financial records, emails, exhibits, recordings and testimonies that could assist Ghanaian investigators.
“Every Ghanaian beneficiary, facilitator, or public official identified in the evidence must be investigated without fear or favour,” Daniel Oteng Awuah said.
