The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has recalled two incidents in which he was confronted by armed robbers during his six-year stay in South Africa.
Apostle Nyamekye said the experiences exposed him to some of the security challenges faced by Ghanaians and other foreigners living in the country.
Speaking to the Communication Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said he was attacked by armed robbers on two occasions and nearly lost his life during one of the incidents.
He also said his luggage was stolen when he was leaving South Africa.
Apostle Nyamekye recently returned to the country after a national deacon of The Church of Pentecost was kidnapped during a church service.
He explained that his past experiences in South Africa made him suitable to travel there and help deal with the situation.
He said the incidents had given him a deeper understanding of the security challenges faced by some Ghanaians living and working in South Africa.
His comments come at a time of renewed concerns about the safety of foreign nationals in South Africa, following reports of xenophobic attacks and other security challenges involving Ghanaians.
