The Amansie South District Chief Executive, Hon. Benjamin Marfo, has warned illegal miners operating along the newly rehabilitated Akwasiso–Koninase road to stop immediately or face arrest.
He said the government and Asanko Gold Ghana had invested heavily in rehabilitating the road, which was previously in poor condition.
Hon. Marfo said the Assembly would not allow illegal mining activities to damage the road. He also warned traditional leaders and others against pleading for the release of miners arrested along the road.
The DCE made the remarks during a clean-up exercise in Manso Akwasiso, Kumpɛse and Nyankomase. The Assembly also donated 15 dustbins to the communities and urged residents to keep their surroundings clean.
The Chief of Manso Akwasiso, Nana Kwaakye Gyimah, supported the Assembly’s action and warned illegal miners to remove their equipment from the roadside or risk arrest.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for Akwasiso, Hon. Stephen Nsiah Kess, appealed for a new transformer, saying parts of the community had suffered power problems for about three months.
He also appealed for support to complete a community centre being constructed through a self-help project.
