The Specialized High Court in Accra has adjourned the ongoing cybersecurity case involving former Cyber Security Authority Executive Director, Kwabena Adu Boahene, to Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The adjournment follows a pending injunction application filed at the Supreme Court seeking to halt proceedings at the High Court while the application is determined.
The case was heard by the Specialized High Court presided over by Justice Francis Achibonga.
At the sitting, the court initially rejected a request for an adjournment based on the absence of the lead counsel for the accused, Samuel Atta Akyea.
The request was made by lawyer Peter Osei Asamoah, who held brief for Mr Atta Akyea and informed the court of a letter notifying it of the lead counsel’s unavailability.
Despite the request, the court declined to adjourn the matter on that basis.
The proceedings were subsequently affected by the pending application before the Supreme Court seeking to injunct the High Court from continuing with the case.
The application has therefore become a key factor in determining the next steps in the proceedings, with the High Court now expected to return to the matter on August 25.
Mr Adu Boahene, a former Executive Director of the Cyber Security Authority, is facing criminal charges in a case that has attracted significant public interest.
The prosecution has been pursuing the case before the Specialized High Court in Accra, while the defence has continued to take steps to challenge aspects of the proceedings.
The latest development means the substantive hearing of the case will remain on hold pending developments concerning the injunction application before the Supreme Court.
The court’s decision to adjourn to August 25 is expected to provide time for the pending application to be addressed and for the parties to return before the High Court.
The case is being closely followed due to the nature of the allegations and the involvement of a former head of the country’s cybersecurity regulatory body.
Further proceedings will depend, in part, on the outcome or progress of the application before the Supreme Court.
The parties are expected to appear before Justice Francis Achibonga on Tuesday, August 25, when the court will take the next step in the matter.
