More than 50 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairpersons, together with leaders of various identifiable groups, have picked nomination forms for former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko to contest the party’s National Chairmanship position.
The nomination forms were picked on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the NPP National Headquarters in Accra.
According to the campaign, the move follows a call made during a conference of NPP Constituency Chairpersons in Kumasi in 2025, where party leaders urged Mr. Agyarko to take up a leadership role in the party’s reorganisation efforts.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation after picking the forms, NPP Chairman for the Cape Coast North Constituency, Stephen Kojo Arhin, said Mr. Agyarko’s candidature is strategically important to the party’s efforts to secure victory for its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 presidential election.
He said the party needs a National Chairman with the vision, discipline and strategic depth to unite its members and rebuild the grassroots.
Mr. Agyarko, in response, expressed gratitude to the Constituency Chairpersons and supporters for the gesture and pledged to work towards building a stronger NPP if elected.
He said his objective would be to build a solid party that can serve as a bridge for Dr. Bawumia to win the 2028 presidential election while helping the NPP secure a majority of parliamentary seats.
