Energy and Green Transition Minister, Hon. John Abdullai Jinapor, has called for a transformation of Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector as the Petroleum Commission marks its 15th anniversary.

Speaking at the official launch of the anniversary celebrations, Mr Jinapor commended the Petroleum Commission for its contribution over the past 15 years to strengthening regulation, promoting local content, attracting investment and ensuring the responsible development of Ghana’s petroleum resources.

He said the next phase of the sector must focus on revitalising upstream activities, increasing exploration and production, strengthening Ghanaian participation and deepening gas development.

The Minister also stressed the need for Ghana to prepare strategically for the ongoing energy transition while maximising the value of its petroleum resources.

According to him, the next 15 years must move Ghana from participation to capability and from contracting to ownership, with greater emphasis on building globally competitive Ghanaian businesses.

He congratulated the Petroleum Commission, its past and present Board, Management and staff on the milestone and expressed hope that the coming years would bring increased investment, stronger local participation, greater energy security and a sustainable energy future for Ghana.
