Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Danquah Smith Butey, popularly known as Chairman Butey, has suggested that Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, should be maintained as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate for the 2028 general election.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie, hosted by Nana Yaw Fianko, Chairman Butey said maintaining the Bawumia-NAPO partnership would be a good decision for the party.

He also said the NPP must remain united following its recent regional elections, stressing that the party needed a stronger front to hold the government accountable.

According to him, the NDC government had failed to deliver on its campaign promises, creating an opportunity for the NPP to reorganise and work towards a return to power.

Chairman Butey said the party’s internal elections had so far been successful, adding that he helped organise polling station and regional elections without any major incidents of conflict.

He urged party members and former contestants to put aside their differences and work together to build a united NPP ahead of the 2028 elections.
