Residents of Darso in the Offinso North District were left in shock on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following an alleged attack by an immigration officer that resulted in the death of his 60-year-old nephew.
The suspect, identified as Officer Asare, is alleged to have attacked and choked his nephew, Nana Juju, during an incident at Darso.
The suspect reportedly later fired shots along the main Darso road, causing panic among residents and commuters. A bullet allegedly struck the tyre of a passing bus.
Police officers who responded to the incident reportedly exchanged gunfire with the suspect before shooting him in the leg and arresting him.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment under police guard, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Nkenkaasu Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police investigations are ongoing.
