The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when a group of armed men reportedly attacked a gold-buying shop and shot the owner in the chest.
The victim was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to the police, preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, identified 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the gang.
Amponsah was arrested on Friday, August 21, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
The suspect subsequently took ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations by the police led to the arrest of three other suspects within the Agona Nkwanta area. They are Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”, 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”, 30.
Another suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
A search of Quayeson’s residence resulted in the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
The police said that during investigations, Quayeson identified the deceased’s alleged shooter as Emmanuel Amponsah and also identified Thomas Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage.
The five suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the robbery and murder.
The Western Regional Police Command said it is also pursuing other accomplices believed to be connected to the incident.
The latest arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the police to identify all persons involved in the attack and bring them before the law.
