The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayiti Okyi, popularly known as “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged threat to kill the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo.
The 46-year-old former boxer was arrested on Monday, August 24, 2026, in connection with the alleged death threat against the NSA Director-General.
The arrest follows the circulation of a video on social media in which Ayitey Powers is alleged to have issued the threat against Mr Ampofo.
The Police said the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations into the matter.
In a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command assured the public that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat.
The Command said it would take appropriate action in accordance with the law based on the outcome of the investigations.
The Police have also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information about the case while investigations are ongoing.
