Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Paul Awentami Afoko has pledged that, if elected to lead the party again, he will assume office without enemies to punish, scores to settle or factions to reward.

Speaking after filing his nomination to contest the NPP National Chairmanship on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Afoko said his return to the race was driven by a desire to help reunite and rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“I will come into office with no enemies to punish, no scores to settle and no faction to reward at the expense of another,” he said.

Afoko acknowledged the difficult experiences he has had within the NPP but said he had chosen not to allow past disagreements to determine the party’s future.

“I return without bitterness. I return without rancour,” he declared, stressing that the NPP was bigger than any individual, including himself.

He also appealed to his fellow contenders to see the contest as an internal family competition rather than a battle against enemies.

“You are not my enemies. You are my brothers and fellow Patriots,” Afoko said, adding that whoever wins the chairmanship contest must work with others after the election to secure victory for the party.

According to him, the NPP needs unity, discipline and organisation if it is to successfully challenge for power in 2028.

Afoko has consequently anchored his campaign on three objectives: reunite the party, reorganise the party and recapture power in 2028.

He said his proposed leadership would be for every member of the NPP, regardless of faction, region or political allegiance.

“I am not contesting to become Chairman of a faction. I am contesting to become Chairman of the New Patriotic Party,” he stressed.
