The government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing sports facilities across Ghana as part of efforts to promote sports development and provide the youth with opportunities to nurture their talents.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Charity Gardener, gave the assurance at Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District during the commissioning of a modern astro turf facility on Wednesday.
Hon. Gardener, who served as the guest of honour, described the project as a timely investment in the development of the youth and said the government remained committed to expanding sports infrastructure across the country.

The new facility is expected to provide residents, particularly young people, with access to a standard playing surface for football and other sporting activities.

The District Chief Executive for Asutifi North, Hafis Dauda, commended the project, describing it as a significant boost to grassroots football development and youth engagement in the district.

He said the facility would provide an avenue for identifying and nurturing emerging football talents while keeping young people actively and productively engaged.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional authority, the Saamanhene of Kenyasi No. 1, Nana Anim Bonus, expressed appreciation to the individuals and institutions whose contributions made the project possible.

Nana Anim Bonus urged residents to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance to prolong its lifespan. He also encouraged the youth to make effective use of the facility as a platform for developing their talents and pursuing opportunities in football and other areas.

The commissioning ceremony attracted government officials, traditional leaders, community stakeholders and residents, who gathered to witness the inauguration of the facility.

The astro turf is expected to enhance sporting activities in Kenyasi, provide local clubs and football academies with access to a standard playing surface, and strengthen the community’s position as an emerging centre for sports development in the Ahafo Region.

Community leaders expressed optimism that the facility would help unearth and develop the next generation of football talent while promoting healthy recreation and youth development.
