The President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Ghana, Engineer Henry Kwadwo Boateng, has called on the Ministry of Education to address the infrastructure challenges at Tamale Technical University (TaTU).

He made this call during the induction ceremony of 31 new members in the Northern Sector, held at the university on June 13, 2025.

Engineer Boateng emphasized the institution’s prospects and stressed the importance of providing a strong technical foundation for the next wave of innovators.

He welcomed the inductees into the institution and encouraged them to seize the many opportunities brought about by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“Let your work be guided by innovation, excellence, and a deep responsibility to society and the environment,” – he advised.

The Executive Director of IET Ghana, Engineer Seth Anim, expressed his gratitude to the organizing team and attendees, and acknowledged the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GHIE) as a valued partner.

He highlighted the importance of extracurricular learning and research, emphasizing that today’s engineers must constantly seek better, smarter solutions.

He reminded the inductees to always follow the code of ethics that governs the profession and to be good stewards of anything entrusted to their care.

Guest speaker Mr. Mahmud Osman, Coordinating Director of Sagnarigu, echoed the theme, pointing out that while AI is becoming a major force globally, human engineers are still at the center of progress.

He encouraged the new members to embrace digital skills and take advantage of programs like the One Million Coders initiative launched by former President John Mahama.

“The world’s biggest companies today are built on tech,” he said. “Engineers are the backbone of those systems.”

Engineer Abdul Shakud Iddrisu, representative of GHIE, gave a warm welcome to the inductees, emphasizing the need to take the code of conduct seriously and urging the new members to actively participate in the activities of the institution.
