Adwoa Safo Recovering After Shooting Incident; Family Rejects Kwadwo Safo Junior’s Leadership Claim

The family of the late Apostle Emeritus Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo has announced that former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is in stable condition and responding positively to medical treatment following a shooting incident involving her younger brother, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, also known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 22, 2026, and signed by Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo on behalf of the Kwadwo Safo Family, the family expressed regret over the incident and assured members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, relatives, sympathisers and the general public that Adwoa Safo’s condition is improving.

The family also sought to clarify what it described as conflicting narratives surrounding the succession arrangements following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

According to the statement, Apostle Kwadwo Safo in 2017 designated his son, Israel Safo, as his successor and entrusted him with the leadership of the church and oversight of the business entities established by the founder.

However, the family alleged that during his tenure, several businesses within the Kristo Asafo conglomerate experienced significant decline, with some collapsing or nearing collapse.

The statement further claimed that changes were made to key principles of the church and that Israel Safo exercised authority without due regard for the founder.

The family said these developments prompted Apostle Kwadwo Safo in 2024 to revoke the authority previously granted to Israel Safo and remove the relevant provisions from the church’s governing framework.

It stated that the late founder subsequently appointed his daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo, as head of the family and established a new succession roadmap for the future leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission, excluding Israel Safo from consideration.

The statement further alleged that Israel Safo, together with some church elders, had sought to organise a private installation ceremony to declare himself leader of the mission, contrary to the wishes of the late founder.

According to the family, two members of the church subsequently initiated legal action and obtained a court order seeking to restrain the planned installation ceremony.

The family claimed that several attempts to serve the court processes on Israel Safo were unsuccessful.

The family alleged that on June 21, 2026, Adwoa Safo personally attempted to serve the court documents on her younger brother when he allegedly discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and instructed associates at the scene to shoot at her vehicle.

The matter, the statement said, has since been reported to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for investigation.

The family maintained that it does not recognise any installation or assumption of leadership by Israel Safo that is inconsistent with the directives of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

It further dissociated itself from any claim by Israel Safo to be acting on behalf of either the Kwadwo Safo Family or the Kristo Asafo Mission and advised the public to exercise caution in dealings purportedly undertaken in the name of the family or mission.

The family also indicated that it reserves the right to pursue all available legal remedies to protect the legacy, assets and wishes of the late founder, while calling on members of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the general public to remain calm and allow state institutions to address the matter.

As of the time of filing this report, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the family’s statement.
