AGI Industry & Quality Awards: Prof. Oppong-Kyekyeku Hails Tobinco Pharmaceuticals

Prof. Oppong-Kyekyeku Hails Tobinco Pharmaceuticals

Professor James Oppong-Kyekyeku of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has praised Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited (TPL) for its outstanding contribution to Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry and the national economy.

Speaking in an interview with Bernard Lav on Atinka TV following TPL’s win as Best Company – Pharmaceuticals Sector at the 14th Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) Industry & Quality Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Prof. Oppong-Kyekyeku said Tobinco’s recognition was well-deserved.

According to him, the pharmaceutical sector has the potential to create substantial employment opportunities because of its wide value chain — from raw material production through manufacturing, sales, and exports. He urged Government to invest more strategically in the industry to unlock these economic benefits.

Prof. Oppong-Kyekyeku also emphasized the need for increased funding for research, noting that Ghana possesses a wealth of herbs and natural materials that can be transformed into high-value pharmaceutical products if research efforts are strengthened.

He further called on the Government to consider expanding tax incentives for local pharmaceutical companies to help them scale up and remain competitive.

The AGI awards celebrate Ghanaian companies that demonstrate excellence in production, quality, and innovation across various industrial sectors.
