Cambodia Issues Deadline for African Nationals to Leave Country Over Immigration Waiver Expiry

The Royal Government of Cambodia has issued an official notice to African nationals, including citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda and other African countries, announcing the expiration of a special immigration waiver by May 31, 2026.

According to the notice released by Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior, all foreign nationals who have benefited from the waiver and have cleared their fines are required to leave the country on or before the stated deadline.

The notice warned that any affected foreign national found entering or remaining in Cambodia from June 1, 2026, would face arrest and legal action.

Authorities indicated that violators could face a two-year jail term and an $8,000 penalty before being allowed to leave the country.

The Cambodian government further announced that police would begin arresting foreigners found hiding or overstaying in the country from June 1, 2026, after which they would be handed over to immigration authorities for prosecution.

The statement stressed that Cambodia would not tolerate violations of its immigration laws and urged all affected persons to comply strictly with the directive.

The notice was issued by Lt. Gen. Som Sopheak, Director General of the General Department of Immigration, and approved by Gen. Sar Sokha, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior.

Cambodian authorities also provided contact details for the General Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh for further information and assistance.
