Cape Coast: Indigenes to stage “No airport, No vote” demo March 7

The youth of Cape Coast in the Central Region have hinted a “No Airport No Vote” demonstration to express their displeasure  over the poor state of the historic city and the region as a whole.
According to the Youth, the Central Region lacks facilities  including  airports..
The demonstration, which  begins at at Abura at exactly 5:00 am, will go through the principal streets of Cape Coast and end at Victoria Park (Jubilee Park).
The group is also expected to present a petition to the President of Ghana, Central Regional House of Chiefs, Oguaa Traditional Council, Edina Traditional Council, Regional Minister, Mayor of Cape Coast and other Religious Bodies, detailing the group’s developmental demands.
“No Airport, no Vote does not mean we will not vote. It also does not mean an airport should be built within these 9 months. The Cape Coast or Central Region Airport is a project that was first proposed by the colonial government but has yet to be developed. Successive governments promised the development of this project including the current government when the then Minister of Aviation, Cecelia Daapah visited a land earmarked for the project. We want to see steps taken and foundations laid before 7th December,” a portion of a statement signed by Paa Kobina, an executive of the group said.
He noted that the group is bent on reminding government of its promise and other developmental projects promised them.
“This is a non-partisan demonstration and we are driven by the love we have for the historic city of Cape Coast and the region at large. We are driven by the spirits of our great fore fathers like Jacob Wilson Sey, John Mensah Sarbah, Efua Sunderland, Dr.  Kwegyir Aggrey, Rev. Philip Qauque, Casley Hayford, Bentsi Enchill, Mr. Benasco and the rest, who contributed massively towards the development of Cape Coast, Central Region and Ghana as a whole,” the statement added.
