Covid-19: Ghanaians warned against self-medication

A Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Asafo Agyei has expressed worry over how people have resorted to a lot of self-medication in their quest to prevent themselves from contracting Covid-19.

He identified that a lot of people take unprescribed medications to prevent themselves without taking into consideration the side effects or a possible future harm that self medication may cause them.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie, hosted by Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Nana Asafo Agyei urged the public to adhere to the safety protocols instead of resorting to unprescribed self medication.

“There are so many unconfirmed prescriptions, medications and personal treatment of covid. Some pastors are prescribing a whole lot of orthodox prescriptions. You may be right at a point, you may not also be right at some point and it is scary. I will urge all to adhere to the safety protocols. When you follow the protocols, there may not be a need for all these prescriptions at some point. Because you may not be able to deal with the consequences, or some may even have their own side effects,” he said.

Nana Asafo Agyei also expressed worry over how some people in the country are still of the belief that coronavirus is not real and therefore do not adhere to the safety protocols.

“Nose masks is GH₡1 or 2, but if you get covid-19, you will pay between GH₡ 9,000 to GH₡ 15,0000 to take care of yourself and that is even if you are promised of your life. why won’t you spend GH₡1 to protect yourself rather than spend that much to treat yourself?” he added.
