Two cousins who reside in Oduman in the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region were nearly lynching after the two unknowingly attended a gay party on 31st December, 2021, at Medie Kotoku.
Narrating their story to DAILY Analyst, the two cousins, Asuaba Mohammed Rabiu Mumuni and Mustapha Musah said they went to the said party without any inkling that the organiser was gay.
According to them, though they managed to escape, they were severely beaten by their family members.
“We went to the party on the 31st night of December 2021 to say bye-bye to the year 2021. We were beaten and assaulted by our families for practising gay which is against the laws of Ghana to extent of being arrested when caught in the act”, they said.

What put them in a tight corner was after one of their friends spotted them at the party.
According to Asuaba Mohhamed Rabiu, they decided to run for their lives because they were being threatened by friends and relatives for tarnishing their reputation.
“Mohammed Rabiu and Mustapha Musah were spotted by a friend at the party so they were questioned for involving themselves in illegalities”, a resident added
In Ghana, the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) criminalises unnatural carnal knowledge associated with the activities of homosexuals.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday, 26th October, 2021, Parliament started looking the controversial draft legislation aimed at heavily penalising LGBTQ+ people, which is already prohibited in the country.
If passed, the new law would allow for up to 10 years in prison for LGBTQI people, penalise those defending them as well as penalise the publication of information that could be considered as encouraging homosexuality.
Consequently, when homosexuals get attacked in Ghana, seeking solace or refuge in the law will simply be out of the question.
