The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, Madam Jean Mensa, has called on all electoral workers to demonstrate professionalism as the nation prepares for its general elections.
She also encouraged all eligible Ghanaians to go out and vote on December 7, assuring the public of credible, transparent, and peaceful electoral processes.
Speaking at the final press briefing ahead of the elections, Madam Mensa described the turnout for the special voting exercise held earlier this week as impressive, with the lowest turnout recorded at 83%. She expressed optimism that this trend would continue on Election Day.
Madam Mensa disclosed that the total number of registered voters stands at 18,774,159 million representing approximately 55% of the country’s total population. This, she noted, meets international standards for voter registration and reflects the commission’s commitment to inclusiveness and transparency.
The EC Chairperson outlined the measures taken by the commission to enhance transparency, including providing real-time updates on voter registration, re-exhibiting the voter register to address concerns, and ensuring that all political parties received certified copies of the voters’ register within three days of its completion.

Madam Mensa firmly reiterated the EC’s neutrality, clarifying that the commission has not endorsed any political party. She urged the public to disregard rumors suggesting otherwise.
The EC Chairperson urged Ghanaians, particularly first-time voters, to actively participate in the elections and to refrain from acts of violence. “We assure you that God being our helper, we will do everything in our power to ensure the elections are transparent, fair, credible, and peaceful,” she added.
She also expressed gratitude to the media, local and international observer groups, and other stakeholders for their support in promoting transparency and confidence in the electoral process. Over 40,000 observers and media personnel have been accredited to monitor the elections.
Madam Mensa concluded by reaffirming the EC’s dedication to delivering an election that reflects the will of the people. “Let us make every vote count. We are committed to upholding the trust placed in us by the good people of Ghana,” she sa
