Electricity Costs to Rise 1.14% in Q4, Water Rates Maintained — PURC

A 1.14% increase in energy rates for the fourth quarter of 2025 has been announced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), and it will take effect on October 1, 2025.

The Commission announced in a statement released on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, that water rates would not change during that time.

“These adjustments are undertaken quarterly to maintain the real value of the tariffs and to keep the utility service providers financially viable to enable them to deliver on their services to consumers,” it said.

According to the PURC, the evaluation took into account a number of factors, such as:

In order to maintain the sector’s financial stability and reflect the devaluation of the Cedi and inflationary tendencies, the Commission stated a small rise in electricity pricing was required.

The ruling means that although water rates stay the same, customers will see little adjustments to their electrical bills starting on October 1.

The Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which makes sure tariffs reflect changes in important economic factors outside of utility service providers’ control, is where the PURC claims the adjustments were made.
