G/A Reg Minister Blasts MMDCEs Over Abuse of Office and Misuse of Personal Assistants

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has issued a strong warning to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) over what she describes as the growing abuse of office and the inappropriate delegation of duties to Personal Assistants (PAs).

Speaking during the “Time with the Media” event organized by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister expressed deep concern about reports that some Chief Executives have effectively handed over their official responsibilities to PAs — individuals who are neither appointed nor elected.

“This must stop immediately,” Hon. Ocloo declared. “Personal Assistants are not to write your official speeches, approve documents on GIFMIS, or represent you at meetings. Assemblies cannot be run by unelected, unappointed individuals hiding behind your authority.”

She also condemned the increasing politicization of public offices, revealing that many MMDCEs have turned their official spaces into party meeting grounds, sidelining their own staff in the process.

“This is an abuse of office, and it is unacceptable,” she added. “From now on, no MMDCE is to attend any RCC meeting with their PAs. If this practice continues, the individuals involved will face serious consequences.”

The Minister’s remarks are part of a broader call for discipline, accountability, and professionalism within the region’s local governance structures.
