The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has said he is not happy with his chiefs in the Amansie area where illegal mining or galamsey has taken over the landscape.
According to him, his chiefs are aware that he (Otumfuo) has been speaking earnestly about it (Galamsey) and that he is never pleased with them.
“I have been saying to them that, if you sit there and you claim that you don’t know what is happening (the galamsey activities) in your area, then you are not fit to be a chief in that area,” Otumfuo added.
The king of Ashanti made the statement on Wednesday during the launch of the 2023 Green Ghana Day in Kumasi.
Otumfuo added that, just as he deals with his superiors, the government is responsible for dealing with others. “We must all take matters seriously to bring an end to this,” he said.
“I am going to take a drive around those areas, in the Amansie and Manso Nkwanta because I have gotten a report on what is happening there and if I finish with that, all the chiefs around that area may have to answer as to why that’s happened there.” Asantehene said.
