Global Ray Calls for More Event Centers in Ghana

The Managing Director of Think Media Experts, Global Ray has urged government and private investors to prioritize the construction of modern event centers across Ghana to support the country’s growing entertainment and tourism sectors.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Entertainment Lounge hosted by Roman Fada, Media and events expert lamented the limited number of suitable venues for major events, noting that the few available facilities are often overbooked.

“We don’t have enough event centers in Ghana. The National Theatre takes about 1,200 people, the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) takes around 1,400, and The Dome is owned by Charterhouse. But that’s not enough for us,” he explained.

Global Ray, who has spent over 25 years in the media and events industry, stressed that Ghana’s growing event culture demands bigger and more versatile venues to accommodate festivals, concerts, and conferences throughout the year.

“Our event consumption is growing. The AICC and National Theatre are always booked. That’s why you see big events being held on school parks and open spaces. We can do better,” he said.

He drew comparisons with Rwanda, highlighting the East African country’s impressive investment in event infrastructure.

“Rwanda is only about 30 to 35 years old, but look at what they’ve done. Kigali alone has over 15 event centers. Their National Conference Centre takes between 5,000 and 6,000 people. That’s why the Trace Awards were held there,” he noted.

Global Ray emphasized that with Ghana’s increasing popularity as a tourism destination, especially during the festive season, there is a strong case for developing large, modern event centers in Accra and other major cities.

“Before, tourists only came in December. But now they come all year round — from January to December. If we invest in proper event centers, it will boost tourism, create jobs, and grow the creative economy,” he said.

He added that better facilities would also reduce the heavy pressure on existing venues like AICC and private event spaces such as Dzorwulu’s Dor Events Center, which he described as “always overbooked.”

“We need centers built for specific purposes — concerts, conferences, festivals. It will help event planners deliver quality productions without having to improvise,” Global Ray advised.

The veteran producer concluded by calling on policymakers, city authorities, and corporate investors to view event infrastructure as a key part of national development.

“Ghana is becoming a tourism hub. Let’s match that with proper event infrastructure. We owe it to the industry and to the image of our country,” he said.

Promoting His New Music

Away from events, Global Ray, who is also a musician, is currently promoting his latest single titled The Highest.”

He has challenged church bands and choirs across the country to record their own versions of the song and post them online. The best entry will win GH₵2,000 and a feature with him.
