‘Hands Off Our Hotels’ demo to hit Central Region if gov’t fails to act- Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that the Hands Off Our Hotels’ demo will hit the Central Region if the president fails to back off the transaction.

Mr Ablakwa earlier revealed that he had intercepted a document that seeks to confirm that SSNIT is far advanced in selling a controlling 60% stake in six of its hotels to Rock City Hotel Limited, owned by Hon. Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi and Minister for Food and Agriculture.

The six SSNIT hotels being sold are:  Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort,  Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, and Trust Lodge Hotel

Ablakwa has since petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) against the sale of the hotels to Bryan Acheampong.

Speaking to pressmen today 18th June, 2024, the lawmaker said the demo will hit the Central Region should the President fail to back of the transaction to protect the future of Ghanaians.

“The demonstrations will continue if we do not hear from President Akufo-Addo in the next few hours after the demonstration saying that they are backing off this transaction. Then we may have to continue, we may go to another region, probably the central region where very iconic hotels like the Ridge Royal and Elmina Beach Resort are and then remember that Busia Lodge and trust lodge are under attack.

“We are not going to rest, we are not going to be complacent, we are not going to allow ourselves to be taken by surprise. It is a national duty, it is a patriotic duty and we call on all Ghanaians to support this noble quest to protect our pensions,” Ablakwa added.
