Host nation Qatar defeated by Ecuador in World Cup opener

Ecuador kicked off their 2022 World Cup campaign in spectacular fashion, defeating host nation Qatar by a score of two goals to nothing.

Qatar thus becomes the first host nation to lose an opening match in World Cup history.

Enner Valencia’s two goals in the first half were enough to seal victory for the South Americans in Group A. The first goal was  scored through a penalty while the second was a wonderful header.

Senegal will play the Netherlands tomorrow in what promises to be an exciting match even though the West African country’s talisman, Sadio Mane, has been ruled out through injury.

The match was preceded by a wonderful and colourful opening ceremony with legendary Hollywood actor, Morgan Freeman, playing a lead role.
