Former National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Director and CEO of Bizline Consult, Joseph Osei Oppong Brenya, has publicly apologised to former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, over comments he made before and during the party’s presidential primaries in January 2026.
In an open letter, Mr Brenya expressed what he described as “deep remorse and a profound sense of responsibility” for remarks he admitted were “harsh, unprintable, and untrue.”
“Those comments did not reflect your true character, your record of service, or the values of the New Patriotic Party. I take full responsibility. I had a wrong observation and assessment of you, and I deeply regret it,” portions of the letter stated.
Mr Brenya, who is contesting for the position of National Communications Director of the NPP, acknowledged that his conduct during the party’s presidential primaries campaign was inappropriate and damaging.
He also extended his apology to party members and members of the public who may have been influenced by his earlier social media posts and public commentaries about Dr Bawumia.
“To my fellow NPP party members and the general public who may have read, shared, or been influenced by my write-ups about Dr Bawumia, I wish to state emphatically: I got it wrong,” he wrote.
He further stated that any allegations he made questioning Dr Bawumia’s integrity, competence, and loyalty to Ghana and the NPP “do not represent the truth about the man.”
In the letter, Mr Brenya formally retracted all previous statements he made against the former Vice President and appealed for forgiveness. He also pledged his “full commitment, loyalty, and support” to Dr. Bawumia and the unity of the NPP ahead of future political activities.
According to him, he is prepared to use his voice and platforms to correct the impressions created by his earlier comments.
Dr Bawumia led the NPP into the 2026 general elections after emerging victorious in the party’s presidential primaries held in January 2026. Mr Brenya previously served as a Director at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
