Okrudu river needs dredging and not reconstruction- Constituents To Hawa Koomson

Some constituents in the Awutu Senya East Constituency have described the decision by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson and the MCE, Hon. Michael Essuman to demolish structures at the banks of the Okrudu river as unwelcome.
The MP who doubles as Minister for Special Development Initiatives announced recently that a massive demolishing exercise is set to hit flood prone areas in the Awutu Senya East Constituency which is likely to affect residents close to the Okrudu river.
According to the MP, the demolition is to pave way for the reconstruction of bridge which will commence soon to avoid flood on the stretch.
However, land owners and shop owners upon a visit to the area, claim no information has been communicated to them in regards to the issue.
According to them, demolishing buildings is not the way to go.
They said after the construction of the bridge by the erstwhile Mahama administration, the river has maintained it’s required level each time it rains without flood, suggesting that it is dredged and not to demolish buildings for a reconstruction.
Meanwhile, although red inscriptions have been marked on buildings and structures across the stretch, the residents claim information on the project is unknown to them.
