Promise to pay Menzgold customers in the public interest – Isaac Brako

Political Science lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Isaac Brako, says the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) manifesto promise of paying Menzgold customers is in the interest of the public.

This statement by the Political science expert was in response to whether or not the NDC’s promise to pay all locked-up funds to affected customers of defunct financial institutions is legitimate, ahead of the party’ manifesto launch on Monday September 7 2020.

Former President and flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to pay up all locked-up funds to affected customers of defunct financial institutions.

John Dramani Mahama said this during a ceremony to outdoor his running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang on Monday July 27, 2020.

According to Mahama, when elected in the impending December polls, he shall pay all customers of the collapsed financial institutions whose monies are locked up in full and restore indigenous Ghanaian participation in the financial sector.

“I pledge on behalf of the NDC that we shall, within one year of being in office pay all funds that have been locked up with the collapsed financial institutions. Within our first year in office, we shall pay all the beneficiaries all funds locked up in the collapsed financial institutions and its a promise. We shall not put together any long term payment plan that will further worsen the living conditions.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Political Science lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Isaac Brako, said the financial crises affected quite a number of people hence a public problem which demands a public solution.

“ The affected customers whose funds are locked-up fund the defunct financial institutions are Ghanaians who also deserve the best. It has become a public problem which deserves a public solution”, he added.
