Look into ECG, PDS deal after Agyapa – Steve Manteaw to SP

Policy analyst and campaign coordinator, Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC), Dr Steve Manteaw, has asked the special prosecutor, Martin Amidu to look into the PDS and ECG deal since that chapter was not closed.

The statement by the policy analyst comes after reports that government had begun exploring new avenues in a fresh bid to release the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to a private concessionaire for management.

This was after a similar move in the past failed amidst controversies and allegations of fraud.

The Deputy Minister of Energy in charge of petroleum, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, explained that it is in the process of securing a new deal despite the fact that government had been silent on the matter since the termination of the ECG concessionaire contract with Power Distribution Services (PDS).

According to Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, the move was aimed at making the power distributor more efficient and profitable to support economic development.

He said the arrangement being devised to hand over ECG this time around would be better than the concession agreement that the ECG entered into with the now defunct PDS Ghana Limited.

The new deal, he said, when secured would be announced to the public as part of the government’s efforts to help change the affluences of the state owned power distributor.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Dr Steve Manteaw, explained that there were issues of corruption in the PDS deal and that the perpetrators need to be brought to book.

According to him, the termination process was not completed and that the Special Prosecutor needs to investigate the ECG, PDS concessionaire agreement and ensure that all angles of corruption are ruled out.

“ The Special prosecutor is doing well with the Agyapa deal investigation and we must applaud him. I will plead with him to look into the whole PDS concessionaire agreement deal and see to it that any corrupt move is exposed and the perpetrator dealt with accordingly,” he said.
