Security Expert, Adib Saani, says Ghana’s security apparatus lacks the training and tools to expedite investigations in murder cases recorded in the country.
This statement comes after a law professor of the University of Ghana was found dead in his East Legon house last Saturday.
Prof Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, was reportedly murdered at his home in Accra.
According to his colleague at the Faculty Poku Adusei, the academician was “murdered” in the same fashion as the late Abuakwa North MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.
The Police says it has arrested four persons in connection with the murder.
The suspects are Christian Pobee, 32 year old cleaner; Isaac Botchway, 41 year old houseboy; James Nana Womba, 26 year old cleaner and Adams Mensah Mansur, 52 year old gardener.
Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Security Expert, Adib Saani explained that aside onlookers contaminating the crime scene, the police sometimes contaminates the crime scene due to lack of adequate training to handle such cases.
He cautioned the general public to be mindful of their environment and ensure that at all times random security checks are conducted to monitor the movements of criminals around the neighbourhood.
Asked whether or not the suspects who have been arrested can be linked to the murder of the lecturer, Security Expert, Adib Saani explained that due to the manner in which the professor was murdered, it’s likely that emotions were involved in the act of the crime and so every member of the household is a suspect until proven otherwise.
The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afia Tenge, who also spoke to Ekourba Gyasi said the 4 suspects are still in the custody of the police and are being investigated.
She called on the general public to acknowledge the sensitivities of family members and also help furnish the police with vital information that will assist them apprehend the perpetrators of this hideous crime.
