NPP Chairmanship Race: Internal Campaign Must Be Respectful, Not Hostile – Team Wontumi

Wontumi’s Legal Troubles

Team Wontumi has strongly condemned what it describes as growing insults and personal attacks targeted at members of its campaign team, calling for a respectful and issue-based internal campaign within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a statement issued by the team, attention was drawn to a series of videos circulating on TikTok by a lady identified as “Boya,” in which several members of Chairman Wontumi’s Campaign Management Team have allegedly been subjected to insults and personal attacks.

According to the statement, key campaign officials including Hon. Archibold Cobbina, Director of Field Operations and Delegate Mobilization, Hon. Moses Anim, Director of Political Affairs, and Nana Fianko, Director of Special Operations, have all become targets of what the team described as “unwarranted attacks.”

Team Wontumi suggested that an examination of the social media activities and affiliations of the individual behind the videos could reveal her political leaning and the chairmanship bid she may be supporting.

The team, however, stressed that it remains committed to conducting a campaign rooted in ideas, competence, vision, and party unity rather than hostility, intimidation, and character assassination.

“It is still early days in this internal campaign season, and Team Wontumi remains firmly committed to a campaign based on ideas, vision, competence, and Party unity, not insults, intimidation, or needless character assassination,” the statement emphasized.

The camp added that its approach aligns with the principles of issue-based campaigning consistently promoted by the NPP’s 2024 Flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia.

The team urged party faithful and the general public to disregard the content of the videos, insisting that such actions risk creating unnecessary divisions within the party’s internal democratic processes.

It also called on the opposing campaign, whose sympathizers it claims may be behind the attacks, to caution their supporters and ensure the contest remains healthy and focused on the broader interest of the party.

“As a Party preparing towards victory in 2028, we must all remember that unity remains our greatest strength. We cannot afford to destroy one another today and expect to build a united front tomorrow,” the statement noted.

Team Wontumi further appealed to well-meaning members of the NPP to openly condemn acts that could undermine party cohesion, stressing that maintaining unity would be crucial ahead of future electoral contests.

The team also highlighted its broad-based support, stating that members of its movement come from the camps of several presidential aspirants who contested in the party’s historic January 31 presidential primary, describing this diversity as evidence of its commitment to reconciliation and inclusion.

It reaffirmed its commitment to engaging delegates respectfully and democratically as it seeks support for Chairman Wontumi’s bid for National Chairman of the NPP.
