A deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Head of Eastern Region Vetting committee, Nana Obiri Boahene, says although some candidates have been disqualified by the vetting committee, the results are provisional and subject to change.
Some candidates who wanted to contest the various parliamentary seats on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were disqualified in the Eastern Region.
Popular among the disqualified candidates include lawyer Philip Addison and lawyer Gloria Ofori Boadu (Obaatampa).
Addison, who lost the Korle Klottey seat in the Greater Accra region during the 2016 elections was disqualified from contesting the Akuapem North seat because he “hasn’t nurtured the party at the constituency”.
Another candidate, a Bursar of Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong William Agyei Twumasi was also disqualified for reportedly using the logo of the NPP fraudulently for his own health insurance other than the national health insurance.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Nana Obiri Boahene, asked the candidates to exercise patience since it is possible that NEC of the NPP can overturn the recommendations.
A disqualified candidate in the Abuakwa South Constituency, Lawyer Gloria Ofori Boadu (Obaatampa), who also spoke to Ekourba Gyasi, said she was accused of not paying dues hence her disqualification.
The lawyer said she has served the NPP at the constituency level and that she pays her dues at both national and regional levels due to her patron status.
“I have been with the party from the onset and I have been very active. My constituency executives and constituents know me. This reminded me of a similar incident in 2008 where the incumbent MP from nowhere was accepted and 12 years later we want to do the same thing? I am not going out,” she added.
