Squatters who were rendered homeless after a demolition exercise earlier this week by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), and the Sanitation Ministry at Old Fadama near Agbogbloshie to pave way for the dredging of Korle Lagoon, have called on government to provide them with houses or transportation for them to go back to Bimbilla where most of them come from.
According to them, although they were informed about the demolition, they were not given enough time to find places to live in and therefore have to sleep under canopies under the mercy of the weather.
Their situation, they complain have exposed them to thieves, rapists and all kinds of diseases.

They said because of the lockdown, they are unable to travel to their hometown.
They are, therefore, calling on government to come to their aid immediately because they are still packed under the canopies instead of observing social distancing in the wake of coronavirus.
Background
Over 500 structures were pulled down during the demolition exercise to commence the dredging on the main gutter at the place.
Although the AMA provided them with canopies to sleep under, most of them did not have the canopy and therefore have to sleep in the open.
When Atinka News visited the place, it was observed that the squatters were not practicing social distancing, while most of them did not have access to running water.
They also made it known that they mostly depend on the public toilet when the need arises, but some of them(public toilet) have also been pulled down
