One dead, 10 injured in accident at Ekumfi Akwakrom

One person died on the spot while ten passengers sustained serious injuries in a gory accident which occurred at Ekumfi Akwakrom on the Kasoa- Cape Coast Highway in the Central Region.

The accident involved a Metro Mass bus with registration number GS 2614-17 which was Takoradi bound from Accra and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GV 22-14 also from Mankessim in the opposite direction.

Reports indicate that the Toyota Corolla made a wrong overtaking in a sharp curve colliding head-on with the Metro Bus.

In an interview with Atinka News, some of the survivors in the Metro Mass bus said, their driver saw the Toyota Corolla making a wrong overtaking and decided to “swerve” but failed, hitting the Toyota in the process .

The driver of the Toyota Corolla died instantly leaving 10 passengers in the Metro bus seriously injured including the driver.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Mankessim Roman Catholic Hospital while the body of the deceased (one) has been deposited at the Saltpond mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The deceased is yet to be identified.

The vehicles have also been sent to Jedu Police Station for further investigations.
