Pictures: Accra Zoo Honours Retiring Staff for Decades of Service

The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission has honoured four long-serving staff members of the Accra Zoo for their dedication and contributions to wildlife conservation and animal welfare.

The colourful retirement ceremony graced partners across the continent including the Tobinco Media Group, held at the Accra Zoo, celebrated the careers of Mr. Theodore Klevor, Madam Paulina Osei, Mr. David Alfred Turkson and Madam Agnes Kumanya, who together served the institution for more than a century.

Mr. Klevor was recognised for his 27 years of service, during which he worked as a zoo keeper, driver, member of the Rapid Response Unit and one of the zoo’s most respected tour guides. Madam Paulina Osei was honoured for her 27 years of service in administration and operations, including her work on wildlife documentation and international conservation programmes.

Mr. David Alfred Turkson was praised for his role in animal rescue operations, wildlife management and conservation activities. He also participated in international wildlife training programmes and key conservation projects in Ghana. Madam Agnes Kumanya was celebrated for rising from a cleaner to Chief Resource Guard during her 25 years of service, demonstrating dedication and resilience throughout her career.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Hon. Timothy Ataboadey Awotiirim, commended the retirees for their humility, professionalism and commitment to duty. He encouraged younger staff to emulate their dedication so they too could leave behind lasting legacies.

Manager of the Accra Zoo, Jemimah Kessewaa Owusu Kessie, said the event was organised to recognise the retirees’ hard work and service to the nation.

She urged the younger generation of workers to learn from the professionalism, discipline and commitment displayed by the retirees throughout their careers.

The retirees received citations, packages including undisclosed amount of money and praises from colleagues and management for their outstanding contributions to the growth of the Accra Zoo and wildlife conservation in Ghana.
