Approval of 4 Deputy Minister nominees based on consensus- Joe Osei Owusu

Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joseph Osei- Owusu, has disclosed that the Appointments Committee vetted the four deputy Ministers on Friday 11th June,2021 based on a consensus by both sides of the committee.

According to him, the entire members of the committee met on Thursday 10th of June, 2021 after the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Alban Bagbin directed Members of Parliament to visit their various constituencies to participate in the President’s tree planting project.

“Right after the announcement by the Speaker, members of the Appointments Committee had a meeting and based on that, we all agreed to vet these four deputy ministers on Friday”

The Minority caucus in Parliament on Wednesday, 23 June 2021, boycotted the approval of four deputy ministerial nominees who were vetted on Green Ghana Day.

The caucus argued that the four were smuggled in on their blind side. They include Deputy Attorney General, Diana Asonaba Dapaah, Deputy Local Government Minister Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, Deputy Sanitation Minister, Amidu Chinia and Deputy Gender Minister Zuweira Abudu.

Reacting to the allegations by the Minority in an interview on Atinka AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Chairman of the Appointment Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu  insisted that he was fair to the Minority members on the committee.

He said members on the  Minority side never alerted him that they were not  going to participate in the vetting adding that, their absence “couldn’t have stopped the committee from performing its duties”.

“I’m surprised the Minority Caucus are now raising this issue after they decided not to participate on that day but at the end of the day, the House has approved the nominees and they will soon be sworn in to perform their duties,” he stressed.
