The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has urged nominees to prepare adequately to appear before the Appointments Committee for vetting.
According to him, the vetting is ready to ask all necessary questions, adding that this vetting will not be a business as usual.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh’s comment comes after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin confirmed receipt of names of the three ministerial nominees and reffered them to the Appointments Committee for consideration.
President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday January 9, 2025 submitted his first set of ministerial nominations to Parliament, fulfilling a key constitutional requirement following his inauguration as President on January 7, 2025.
The nominations, submitted to the Speaker of Parliament in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution, include three individuals for critical portfolios in finance, energy, and justice.
The nominees are Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson – Minister for Finance Designate, Mr John Abdulai Jinapor – Minister for Energy Designate and Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine – Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Designate.
Commenting on the floor of Parliament, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh commended the nominees and wished them well.
He also took the opportunity to remind President Mahama to keep to his promise of not appointing more than 60 ministers.
“Mr. Speaker, let me remind His Excellency the President that this 3 out of the 60 so we have 57 outstanding”.
