Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, Chairman, Governing Council, Takoradi Technical University (TTU)

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, says technical education is the most effective instrument to improve the lives of people and develop their communities.

According to Dr. Tobbin, the vision of the university is to build and equip students with the skills and capabilities to thrive in a modern economy and the consciousness to contribute to a better society.

The Council Chairman made the remarks at the 7th Congregation of Takoradi Technical University over the weekend in Takoradi.

He stressed that, in recognition of the critical role the technical university plays, TTU Council transacted business in the academic year under review with the sole aim of projecting the university (TTU) as a world-class technical university recognized for excellence, innovation, and societal relevance by enabling an environment of possibilities, quality research, and training qualified persons to help the socio-economic development of the country.

Dr. Amo Tobbin, mentioned the completion of the “Oduro Block,” a new strategic plan, academic and administrative reforms, and human resource development as some of the notable achievements of the university.

Dr. Amo Tobbin advised the graduates to consider all options and possible influences before making decisions about their careers and personal lives. He also cautioned them that these opportunities might not initially appear to fit their expectations.

“The degree you have acquired from the university dares you to aim high, be confident, and become productive.”

These qualities according to him, are required in the working environment to shape the challenging world we are in today.

“Our graduates are not just qualified but educated, willing, adaptable, and dexterous and you are definitely a compeer for this challenge,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, said in his address that TTU continues to be a beacon with respect to inclusive education at the tertiary level.

He added that the university’s pioneering efforts to blend both deaf students and their hearing counterparts under one learning environment were worth mentioning.

According to him, the university graduated 4,311 students in the 2021-2022 academic year, with 8 receiving master’s degrees, 1013 receiving bachelor’s degrees in technology, 2,710 receiving higher national diplomas, 531 receiving diplomas in technology, and 49 receiving non-tertiary diplomas.
