A group called the Coalition of Concerned Youth of the Upper West Region has visited parts of the Wa-Sawla-Bole road project to check the progress of work.
The visit comes after the Roads and Highways Minister assured residents that the project would be completed within 24 months under the government’s “Big Push” programme.
The youth group said they want to make sure contractors stay committed to the project because the road has been in a bad condition for many years.
According to them, the poor state of the road has affected transportation, business activities, and healthcare delivery in the region.
They also appealed to people from the Upper West Region, both in Ghana and abroad, to support their monitoring activities financially.

Meanwhile, construction company M/S Maripoma Company Limited has started preliminary works on the Wa–Tanina section of the road. The work includes filling potholes and shaping the edges of the road.

A manager at the site, Liao Ming Qiang, said the current work is the first phase of the project, adding that major construction will begin later.
In another development, youth activist Surajdeen Sufyan Bugli has started a 126-kilometre protest walk from Wa to Bole to demand the speedy completion of the road.
He said the walk is to draw national attention to the importance of the project and the need for government to complete it on time.
Many residents have praised his effort and continue to call on government and contractors to avoid delays on the project.
