Thousands of jobs are expected to be created in Ghana’s mining communities following the signing of a major investment agreement between the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) and China’s Hunan Isunte (Yixintai) Group.
The deal, which was formalized during the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in Changsha, Hunan Province, is part of a broader effort to provide sustainable livelihoods for Ghanaians affected by the negative impacts of mining.
Central to the agreement is the launch of the “Health Ramie Agriculture-Industry-Technology-Commerce Integrated Industrial Chain Project,” which will introduce the large-scale cultivation and industrial processing of Ramie. Known for its durability and versatility, Ramie is a fibre crop with significant applications across various industries.
The initiative is in line with the MDF’s core objective of promoting long-term development and resilience in mining-impacted areas. Beyond job creation, it aims to provide a more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional mining-based livelihoods.
This investment also marks another step forward in strengthening economic cooperation between Ghana and China. It falls under the umbrella of the China-Africa cooperation platform, which seeks to foster mutual growth through trade, investment, and technology sharing across the continent.
